Birch
Bay is an unincorporated urban growth area located in the northern coner of Whatcom County,
Washington. The community is just 6 miles south of the international border bewteen the United States and British Columbia, Canada. Birch Bay has been a resort destination for over 100 years and more then doubles its population in the summertime. The warm salt
waters of Birch Bay boast the largest tide flat in Washington
State which opens into the Straight of Georgia. Much
of the area is mountainous of which a large part is
made up of National Forest and National Parks. Just
fifty miles east lies Mount Baker, the highest peak
in the North Cascade mountain range. Mount Baker an
ice-clad volcano, towers to 10,778 feet, provides the
area and the state the longest ski season, and great
snow-boarding. The volume of snow and ice on Mount Baker
is greater than that of all the other Cascade Mountain
volcanoes except for Mount Rainer.

Taxes
There is no
income tax in Washington State. The sales tax varies
from area to area depending on if they've added a transportation
system (bus) or not. Whatcom County is mainly 7.9%.

license is required for all dogs in Whatcom County.
Call for specific information on leash laws. However,
dogs are allowed on public beaches in Birch Bay.
